Bamboo Columns

A PUBLIC ART INSTALLATION IN HUNTINGTON, NY
Huntington's "Solar Columns”
Corner of Pulaski Road and Park Avenue, Huntington, NY

This installation is viewed by day or by night- but to really get the
full experience -park at citibank, cross at the crosswalk-(this
intersection is a little crazy in the daytime especially!) and spend
some valuable time walking though and taking it in. This is a
must for
the full night experience-its worth the time to park and check it out!!

This innovative environmental art piece, inspired by the Egyptian
colonnade at the temple of Aman Ra in Karnac, is  created  by entirely
out of locally harvested bamboo, jute rope and solar lighting. Together
these sustainable local materials represent ‘eco-friendly’ elevated to
an art form.

The whole project has a footprint of approximately 2000 square feet,
containing 25 bamboo columns in rows of 5, each standing about 10
feet apart. Each column is topped with capitols which will hold the
solar panels and lights. As the sun sets the bamboo columns illuminate
well into the night. The installation will be visible day and night from
passers by at this main intersection of Pulaski Road and Park Avenue,
Huntington NY. This environmentally sustainable sculpture will
be on view through September 2008.

Thea Lanzisero and guest artist Sydra Nightingale invited the public
to participate in the process of creating this unique project.
...Thank you for you time and participation in making the art happen!!
