Bio

Thea Lanzisero makes art responding to her environment, personal as well as global.

With bamboo and jute rope she has been creating temporary outdoor environmental installations with a focus on public
participation and site specific presentation. These installations are imbued with community interaction and environmental themes
including the play of solar light.

Thea's private studio practice revolves around creating sculptural components for installation both indoor and out. These
sculptures are constructed of interconnected circular forms. Her most recent work made of cutouts using recycled paper,
reflects the spirit to protect nature with armor-like imagery that approach ethereal, ornamental and sometimes figurative.

In all of her work the balance of opposites are at constant play; Ancient vs. Modern; Masculine vs. Feminine and solid structure
vs open and ethereal form.

Thea received her BFA from SUNY Purchase in 1994 and has since been building her repertoire of objects and installations. She
has received grants from JP Morgan Chase, NYFA’s SOS Grant, and numerous commissions and public art installations in places
such as Huntington, NY, Roanoke, VA, the Brooklyn Bridge Park, Governor's Island, and Sculpture Key West. She was a panel
member in 2008 for “Green Art, Artists and the Environment”, with NY State Arts Alliance and was artist in residence in 2007
at the Heckscher Museum. She teaches and is head kiln operator at USDAN Creative and Performing Arts Summer Camp on Long
Island, NY.
